Reads Break Ground on New Home at Vintage Oaks in Time for Holiday Season
The afternoon was grey and cool, with surrounding oak trees beginning to lose their leaves for the winter. Despite the weather, the mood was cheery and upbeat, as Senior Airman, Colton Read, and his wife, Jessica, broke ground on their new home at Vintage Oaks at the Vineyard in New Braunfels on Friday.
In September, the Reads were stunned when representatives from Southstar Communities, Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes, Operation FINALLY HOME and the New Braunfels and Comal County communities gathered to welcome the young couple to the neighborhood. Airman Read lost both of his legs during a routine gallbladder surgery gone wrong, which was required of him in order to deploy to Iraq.
Southstar Communities Senior Vice President, Stephen Davis, said that the holidays were a perfect time to thank Colton for his honorable service to our country, and break ground on his new dream home. The 1-acre piece of land sits at the top of a hill in the beautiful community, which boasts panoramic views and easy access to big cities like San Antonio and Austin. Airman Read thanked Operation FINALLY HOME for saying “yes” when he felt as though everyone else around him were saying “no.” Jimmy Jacobs expects to have the home completed by late Spring. Following the groundbreaking, everyone gathered for holiday merriment and photos with Santa at Vintage Oak’s Discovery Center.
