Did you know that music played in the vineyard may “improve the quality of the wine in your glass?” This is just one of the fascinating things you learn when you explore the Texas Wine Trail.

46 Wineries

The Texas Wine Trail comprises unique 46 wineries stretching from “Austin to Fredericksburg and Lampasas to New Braunfels,” and including William Chris Vineyards, one of the wineries recently profiled in Wine Enthusiast for its unique process of playing music for his wine barrels—winemaker Chris Brundrett’s terroir-driven belief that the tunes (“George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic during harvest” and “alternative country or Bob Dylan” after fermentation) help shape the wine.

It also includes Dry Comal Creek, a favorite winery known for its famed Black Spanish Wines, and numerous other award-winning wineries that have helped elevate the Texas Wine Trail beyond a regional hotspot. Wine Enthusiast named the Texas Hill Country “one of the 10 Best Travel Destinations” and Texas wines have earned international acclaim in several prestigious competitions, most recently racking up awards in the TEXSOM International Wine Awards (TIWA). Texas  “entered 215 wines, and in a testament to the state’s growing industry, took home 157 medals, roughly two dozen of those being gold."

Events and Activities

Wine tasting is the favorite event of those visiting the Texas Wine Trail, especially with the growing popularity of Texas wines—Texas is now the No. 5 wine-producing state in the country! But that’s just the beginning of what there is to do.

“Four times a year, we plan special Wine Trails and Events,” said the Texas Wine Trail. “The trails are self-guided driving tours, with wineries offering special tastings of newly released wines, demonstrations and tours.”

Two of the upcoming events are:

  • 2015 Texas Wine Month Trail, October 1–31, 2015
  • 2015 Christmas Wine Affair, December 4–20, 2015

There are also events at individual wineries, including wine tastings, classes, art shows, live music, picnics and other dining opportunities. Many also offer wedding facilities among the vineyards.
