The report featured in The Dallas Morning News reported in a 7-year time span about 15 percent of California’s large businesses relocated to Texas. Texas has affordable housing for employees and land for expansion.

Austin's economic growth the most since the recession

Among all the other impressive news about Austin (and there’s a lot to choose from), this just may be at the top: According to a study by WalletHub, Austin has performed better than any other city since the recession.

The study ranked the fastest-growing economies “based on key metrics from 2008-2014, including population growth and the rate of decrease in unemployment, among other factors,” said the Austin Business Journal.

They include:

  • Working-Age Population Growth
  • Poverty Rate Decrease
  • Median Household Income Growth
  • Growth of Regional GDP per Capita
  • Growth of Median House Prices

Austin, San Antonio top Fortune's hottest real estate markets for 2016


Great acclaim and great popularity. That’s been the story of Austin and San Antonio for the last several years, as the two cities have appeared on numerous “Best of” lists, swelled in population, and enjoyed their positions as two of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. And they’re not done yet. Fortune just released its list of the Best Real Estate Markets for 2016, with Austin and San Antonio sitting at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively.

“Trulia Housing Economist Ralph McLaughlin cast a wider net when deciding at which home markets interested him most,” said Fortune. “He looked at five metrics: strong job growth over the past year, low vacancy rates, high affordability, more inbound home searches than outbound, and a large share of millennials.

Austin and San Antonio on ULI Markets to Watch List


Good news for the Central Texas housing market in 2016: the nonprofit research and education organization Urban Land Institute (ULI), has named Austin and San Antonio among their top real estate markets to watch in the coming year, according to Builder magazine. For those looking to buy land in Texas or build a custom home in New Braunfels, there has perhaps never been a better time.

Austin, the No. 2 market to watch nationally, “has become a perennial favorite among survey respondents,” said ULI. “This optimism has been rewarded by continued strong economic and real estate performance. Austin continues to benefit from diverse job creation ranging from service jobs to higher-end STEM and technology, advertising, media, and information (TAMI) positions. Austin remains an attractive place to live for all generations.”
