SouthStar Communities
Thad Rutherford is planning some of South Texas' most ambitious developments. Last year, SouthStar began development on VIDA San Antonio, a 600-acre mixed-use project on the South Side. This year, the developer got started on Mayfair, a 1,900-acre development northeast of New Braunfels. The projects, set to complete in 2034 and 2037 respectively, are projected to add 8,600 residences in the area. Considering the pandemic's effect on the cost of materials and labor, Rutherford will have to determine whether it is best to plow ahead with the developer's plans or change tack.
