September in New Braunfels is a time to celebrate the start of cooler weather heading into fall, kids’ return to learning now that they’re a couple weeks into the school year, and a number of great family events (and a few that are more geared for adults only) taking place throughout the city. If you’re looking for something fun to do close to home, or a good reason to come visit, you’ve got plenty to choose from this month.

Patriot Day Golf Tournament
Friday, Sept. 4, 1pm
Landa Park Golf Course

This 18-hole scramble foursome tournament has $125 entry fee per person (includes lunch, entry gift, tournament with cart, and prizes), with proceeds benefiting the Folds of Honor Foundation, providing scholarships to the spouses and children of deceased and disabled soldiers.

Movies in the park
Friday, Sept. 4, 7pm
Fischer Park Amphitheater

The new Fischer Park will hold a free movie series on the first Friday of each month at the Fischer Park Amphitheater. Tonight is the “nature inspired, educational film,” Disney Nature: Wings of Life. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, snacks and drinks.

SARR Labor Day 5 Mile Whine Run
Monday, Sept. 7, 7:30am
Dry Comal Creek Vineyards

Take part in the five-mile Labor Day Whine Run with the San Antonio Roadrunners (SARR).

Gruene 10K
Saturday, Sept. 12, 8am
Gruene Historic District

This run/walk through the scenic Texas Hill Country provides medals for each age group with food, drinks, and tunes at the famed Gruene Hall post race. Sponsored by the New Braunfels Running Club with a $25 entry fee.

Doggie Dip Day
Sunday, Sept. 13, noon to 4pm
Landa Park Aquatic Complex

Head to Landa Park with your pooch and let him go for a swim in the Springfed Pool. Collars mandatory and proof of current Rabies vaccine necessary for entry. $5 per dog/owner and $1 each additional person.

NFL Punt, Pass and Kick
Sunday, Sept. 13, 5–7pm
H-E-B Soccer Complex

Let the kids show off their punting, passing, and placekicking, with scores calculated according to distance and accuracy during this free event. They might even advance to competitions held at NFL games!

S’more Campfire Stories
Friday Sept. 18, 7pm
Landa Park Dance Slab

On the third Friday of every month, Landa Park is the place to be for free stories and s’mores around the campfire. Bring your own camp chair or stool!

Old Gruene Market Days
Saturday, Sept. 19 to Sunday, Sept. 20, 10am–5pm
Gruene

The monthly gathering of talented artisans and eager visitors takes place this weekend. Pick up a unique item from one of the 100+ vendors and spend some time exploring the Gruene Historic District.
