National Night Out is a countrywide effort to enhance “the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.” It’s celebrated in individual communities all over the country, but all you had to do was swing by Vintage Oaks earlier this month to see what a successful event truly looks like.

Community volunteers came together with the local police to make the event possible, and several generous Vintage Oaks owners donated prizes for raffles. Funds were raised for the 100 Club of Comal County, a non-profit organization that provides support to the families of fallen law enforcement, fire/rescue services, and other first responders in Comal County. There was also a catered dinner and an ice cream bar, plus sold-out duck races.

More than 300 people were in attendance, as well as three deputies from the Sheriff’s Department and two firefighters plus the Fire Chief from Canyon Lake Fire/EMS. Comal County Commissioner Donna Eccleston also stopped by.

“We went to National Night Out here in the community, and it was great,” said Jack and Stephanie Leedy, who moved from The Woodlands and built their retirement dream home at Vintage Oaks. “There are so many community events and opportunities to be social here.”

Next up is the Halloween Trunk-or-Treat, one of the favorite Vintage Oaks events of the year, on October 31. There will be treats, games, and hayrides for the little ones, and awards for the “Best Dressed” vehicle. Trunk-or-Treat “is the most popular event in terms of families and has gone from having just a few people in the parking lot to the lot being completely full,” said Cindy Lamb, Chair of Vintage Oaks’ Social Committee Group. Owners at Vintage Oaks also love the upcoming holiday event in the community, complete with a snowy sledding hill.
